It's Football Time!!!!

JAMBOREE @ Shouldice Athletic Park [1515 Home Rd NW, Calgary]

SATURDAY, AUG 13, 2011 benefiting Ronald McDonald House

BANTAM INFO

First Game : 11:30 am vs Eagles south side of Stampeder Field

Second Game: 2:30 vs Leduc south side of Stampeder Field

Last Game: 3:30 vs. Chargers south side of Stampeder Field

When do we need your Bantam Falcon?

Be at Shouldice Park one hour before game time.

What should he wear?

Full game uniform: Game jersey, game pants (silver / grey), black belt, black knee-high socks,

girdle, 7 pads, helmet and mouthguard. Cleats must be single mould plastic sole, with studs no

longer than ½ “. If you are missing any of these items, come in your practice gear instead. The

Manager will do what she can to get you equipped in the hour before game time. As this is not

a CBFA league game, officials will not be insisting on full CBFA uniforms - just game jerseys.

What should he bring?

At least 3 bottles of water, some lunch money, and any medical items you may need.

Inhalers, epipens, etc. must be turned over to our Trainer, Ed Guinn, before each game.

Where are we meeting?

In front of dressing room #7, located at the south end of the Concession / Field House bldg.

Where do I park?

Be forewarned that parking lot traffic is a nightmare - not so much first thing in the morning, but

later when all teams are trying to leave at the same time. If you are not parked in one of the

parking lots noted on the above map link, you may well receive a $150 fine from a Traffic By-

Law officer. The organizers of this Jamboree recommend that you drop your player off in front of

the Concession / Field House building an hour ahead of game time, then drive over to McMahon

Stadium’s WEST parking lot to park. From there, a shuttle will leave every 30 minutes on the ½

hr starting at 8:30 a.m. It is only a quick 10 minute drive between Shouldice Park and McMahon

Stadium.

Is there a fee to get in?

This time, yes, because the Jamboree is actually a fundraiser. You will be charge $2 per

person upon entry. If you need to leave the gate, you can get a stamp of your hand for free reentry.

How long are the games?

We are aiming for 35-40 minutes games. We must wrap up each game inside of 50 minutes to

keep the day on schedule.

Where can the kids eat?

The Concession may or may not be open, but for this Jamboree, the organizers arrange to

have Spolumbo sausage, sandwiches & drinks sold from tents between Encana & Stampeder

fields. The cost last yr was about $4-$5 / sandwich (I think), and like the $2 gate admission, all

proceeds are going to the Ronald McDonald House cause. Off site, there is also a Taco Bell, a

Dairy Queen and a Safeway (deli) within 5 minutes’ walk from the park.

Pee Wee News

Hello All

What a great week for football (except for the almost tornado on Monday night).  Busy couple of weeks in front of us so please make sure to read this email all the way through.

Game this Week

We play the Bulldogs the Saturday in an exhibition game at our field.  Kickoff is 10 AM.  Players need to be at the field by 9 AM.  Game jerseys need to be handed in at the end of the game.  Do not leave the field with the game jersey or Jersey Night will be messed up.  There will be a BBQ right after the game. (BBQ volunteers – please see me for a huddle at the end of practice tonight)

Practice this Week

We practice as usual from 6:30 – 8:30.  Defense starts footwork at 6:20 PM.  We will hand out jerseys for Saturday’s game at the end of practice on Thursday.

League Paper Work and Fees

Just a reminder that the league forms and the fees payment for the season are due by next Tuesday, Aug 23rd latest.  I must have the paperwork and fees before you player can participate in a league game.  I have to go register the team with the league on Wednesday night next week so any paperwork I don’t have on Tuesday won’t get registered.  That means everyone else has to be registered one by one on game days which is a giant pain in the neck logistically.  Please make sure your paperwork is on time.

Practice Next Week

We practice Mon-Thurs as usual but on Wednesday we have Jersey night at the end of practice (8 PM)  This is a fun event to celebrate the kids and the team as they begin the regular season.  Great photo op!  Snacks will be served.

Game Next Week

We play our first regular season game on Saturday August 27th at 2:15 PM on Stampeder Field.  Players need to be at Shouldice in front of the locker rooms at 1 PM sharp

Weather Protocol

So for those of you who are new to the program, we never cancel a practice unless it is below -25 C or the field conditions are unsafe.  We will move the kids inside in the case of severe weather (Lightening, hail, tornado etc.).  Monday was the first time in a long time that we have had to do that.  If it looks like the weather will not clear, we will phone parents cell phones first and home phones second to come and pick up.  PLEASE always keep your cell phone with you while your child is at practice in case we need to get hold of you.

Injury Protocol

Football is a collision sport and as such, players will get hurt or injured.  Players must report to the trainer (myself or Vanessa Oling) when they get hurt or injured.  We will treat them and indicate whether they need further treatment (immediately or the next day).  I have instructed the players that when they get treated during practice or a game, they need to hang around after practice so that the trainers can talk to the parents.  If a parent is not available after practice then we need to converse by telephone.  It is critical that there is trainer/parent contact after an injury.  So if your player hops in the car with an ice pack or a tape job, you need to come find Vanessa or I.  We are doing everything possible to prevent injuries by having the kids to an ample dynamic warm up, conditioning for fitness and strength and a cool down at night.  Please ensure that players are drinking 2L of water throughout the day (helps with cramping and prevention of heat stroke etc) and keep an eye out for foot or knee pain which may be a sign of growth related muscle/tendon/ligament issues.  We need to know about any conditions such as plantar fasciitis or Osgood Schlatters disease.

Three Cheers for Volunteers

A huge thank you to Margot Leger for being the team Mom, trainer, candlestick maker this past Saturday for the Jamboree while I was taking a course.  She did an amazing job!  A big shout out to Tracy Banser who reffed no less than 5 games on Saturday.  Thanks to volunteers like Tracy, Peewee football is played.  If we didn’t have refs there would be no games.  Thanks to Daniel Reaume for spending the day taking the ref course in the oven also known as the Peewee trailer.  Giant thank yous to a very special parent team – Paul Negenman and Jill Kobelak (Michael’s parents)  Paul is the peewee equipment manager and he also just dressed all the Atom kids who started this week.  Jill is the Bantam manager and she is also pinch hitting as the Atom manager at the same time.  These folks are amazing and are making Falcons Football happen at all three league levels.  The next time you see them, give them a pat on the back.

As always, if you have any questions just give me a call or email me.

Regards

Miss Whitney
